The English along with Welsh Pitted Together for the 2027 World Cup Down Under

The English side and Wales have been drawn in an identical group for the World Cup in 2027, setting up a major pool stage clash in the tournament Down Under. Completing the group in Group F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and the Zimbabwean Sables.

This pairing mirrors their famous meeting in the group phase of the 2015 tournament, where Wales' victory at England's home ground contributed to the hosts' shock group stage elimination.

Other Notable Pool Draws

Ireland alongside Scotland also share a pool once again, replicating the scenario from the France 2023 tournament. On that occasion, Ireland claimed a convincing victory, with Scotland failing to progress to the knockout stages.

Los Teros and Os Lobos, who each made a strong impression as underdogs in France, round out that same group.

Significantly, the winners of these two groups are kept apart from holders and world number one South Africa before the showpiece match, presuming the Springboks win their own group.

Knockout Ramifications

If the pools conclude in line with the current world rankings, other top favourites like the All Blacks and France would also be kept apart from the likes of England and the Irish until the championship decider.

In that scenario, Los Pumas would be the other highly-seeded nation on the same side of the elimination bracket as those northern hemisphere teams.

Hosts Draw Major Opener

Hosts Australia find themselves together with their great rivals and triple champions the All Blacks in Group A.

The Wallabies will open the tournament in Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a marquee fixture designed to launch the competition.

Elsewhere, holders South Africa have been paired with Italy, the Lelos and Romania. The French team are in a pool with Japan, future hosts the United States and Manu Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Argentina will take on the Flying Fijians, Los Leones and Canada as the World Cup grows to 24 teams from the twenty who took part in France.

The 2027 tournament will feature a round of 16 round for the very first time in the competition's history.

Although the victor of Pool F may be kept apart from some of the game's biggest beasts initially, they will meet the second-placed team from Group B – probably the Italians – in the first knockout round.

A total of four of the other six pool winners will face a team that finished third from the initial group phase.
