Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from spring of the previous year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 championships at twenty-one different events.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children at once, so to win a title is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six finals, comprising in Halle previously this season.

His counter-punching play style and regular emotional displays on court had prompted commentators to question if his capacity to perform at the highest level was finished.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an better serve.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

He defended 4 early-game opportunities in a tight final set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
